To provide students the
opportunity to broaden their experiences by taking courses they
might not otherwise pursue, the university allows students to
enroll in a limited number of classes on a Credit/No Credit
basis.
To sign up for the
Credit/No Credit grading option, you need to obtain a Credit/No
Credit Grading Option form from the Registrar's Office in
McClain Hall 104. Fill out the form completely and obtain
your advisor's signature, then submit the form to the
Registrar's Office for processing. You may sign up for the
Credit/No Credit grading option at any time prior to the last
date to drop a class. After the free add/drop period, a
$25 processing fee is assessed. See the
Important Dates
section for exact dates and deadlines.
Please note that the following
guidelines and restrictions apply to courses completed through
the Credit/No Credit grading option.
-
A student may take
only "free elective" undergraduate courses as Credit/No
Credit classes. "Free electives" are those courses not
used to fulfill the requirements in the liberal studies
program, in the student's major program (including required
support), in the additional foreign language component for
the B.A., in the additional science component for the B.S.,
minor requirements, departmental honors, or general honors
requirements.
-
A student may
complete a course that is being used to fulfill the
writing-enhanced requirement, the Missouri Statute
requirement, the 40 required hours of 300+ level
undergraduate coursework, and/or the cumulative hour
requirement using the credit/no credit grading option if
that course is not being used to fulfill any other
requirements in the student's program.
-
Credit is achieved by a "D" grade or above, while failing a
course results in No Credit. A grade of "Y" indicates credit
earned in a credit/no credit course; a grade of "Z"
indicates no credit earned in a credit/no credit course.
-
A student may take
up to five hours per semester using the Credit/No Credit
grading option.
-
A student may change
to or from a Credit/No Credit grading system by the last day
allowed to drop the course. See the
Important Dates
section for exact dates.
-
With a Credit standing, the student will receive credit for
the course. Students are not be eligible to retake a
course in which credit was earned using the credit/no credit
grading option.
-
With a No Credit standing, the student will not receive
credit for the course although the student's transcript will
show that the student attempted, yet no credit was received,
for the course.
-
Courses taken under the Credit/No Credit grading option do
not affect the student's grade point average.
-
During the semester, only the student, the student's
advisor, and the Registrar's Office will know that the
student is taking the course on a Credit/No Credit basis.
-
Up to 12 credit
hours of Credit/No Credit may be counted toward graduation.
All students should
consult their advisors prior to deciding to take any course
Credit/No Credit. Pre-Education students are advised that
professional education courses cannot be taken Credit/No Credit.
Students planning to pursue the MAE degree should contact the
Certification Office in the Division of Education for specific
information. Courses taken Credit/No Credit do not fulfill
requirements for load considerations by the Veterans
Administration if the final grade assigned is No Credit.
