Adding Courses

You may process course additions on TruView beginning with your group’s first available date/time through the end of the designated add/drop period at the beginning of the semester (see Important Dates).  If you are a first semester student, you will need a Registration Access Code (RAC) from your academic advisor to process adds.

Any requests to add courses after the designated add/drop period at the beginning of the semester must be approved by the student's advisor, the course instructor, and the Dean of School or College of the course.  After the fourth week of the semester, course adds must also be approved by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Students petitioning to add courses after the add deadline must personally submit an add/drop form to the Registrar's Office, McClain Hall 104, with all of the required signatures. Students cannot add courses online after the add deadline.  A $50 add/drop fee will be added to the student's account for any courses added after the add deadline.  This add/drop policy does not apply to independent studies, readings, and internship sections that are added to the schedule after the semester begins.

Adding Courses with an Override

A Department Office may enter an override to allow you to register in a course that is closed or for which you received a registration error.  If you receive an override, you must log in to TruView and register for that course by entering the course CRN in the boxes provided on the add/drop courses screen.  You are not automatically enrolled in a course when an override is entered.

Credit Load Restrictions/Overload Permits

Undergraduate students desiring to enroll in an overload must obtain an overload permit from the Office of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs (MC 203).  Graduate students desiring to enroll in an overload must obtain an overload permit from the Dean of Graduate Studies (MC 203).  This form must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office for processing.

Late Registration

Late registrants will be accepted only in those classes where the instructors believe that work missed may be conveniently made up.  A late registration fee of $20 will be assessed in addition to regular registration fees for any student who initiates registration (e.g., enrolls for the first time) on or after the first day of the semester.  After the first week of classes, these enrollments must be processed in person through the Registrar’s Office.

Dropping Courses

You may drop courses on TruView beginning with your group’s first available date/time through the end of the designated add/drop period at the beginning of the semester (see Important Dates).  If you are a first semester student, you will need a Registration Access Code (RAC) from by your academic advisor to drop courses.

A $50 add/drop fee will be assessed for any course added or dropped after the first five days of the Fall and Spring semesters or the first two days of a Summer session, regardless of the reason for the schedule change.

Students dropping individual courses during the first five days for the Fall or Spring semesters or the first two days of the Summer session will receive a refund if the dropped course results in a change in the student's assessed fees for the semester.

If a course is dropped before the end of the fourth week, it will not appear on the student’s transcript. If a course is dropped between the end of the fourth week and the end of the tenth week, a grade of “W” will be placed on the student’s transcript. Individual full semester courses cannot be dropped after the tenth week of the semester. See the Important Dates section for exact dates and deadlines. Any exception to this policy must be approved by the Academic Standards Committee. If approval is granted to drop a course after the tenth week of the semester, the instructor of record for the course will be asked to assign a “W” or “WF” grade. A grade of “WF” will be calculated in the Grade Point Average.  Courses other than a full academic semester of fifteen weeks (e.g., block, summer courses) will have a “W” assigned if dropped after first quarter of the courses, and a “W” or “WF” assigned if dropped after the first two thirds of the courses.

Failure to follow proper procedure will result in assignment of a grade of "F."

Changing All Courses

You will not be allowed to drop all courses via TruView.   If you plan to drop all courses and replace them with other courses, drop all but one course, add the new courses, then drop the last course.
