Become a Shear Fellow and join 36 of Missouri’s top student leaders at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for the 21st Century Leadership Academy, Missouri’s premier leadership development opportunity focused on women’s public policy leadership, May 18-23, 2008. The 21st Century Leadership Academy is a weeklong, residential program that encourages students to consider careers in public policy, and provides leadership skills training to help them be successful.
The curriculum includes meetings with women elected officials, government leaders and policy advocates, as well as panel discussions, small group projects, and skill building opportunities. The Academy also includes a trip to Jefferson City where Shear Fellows meet with state leaders and participate in a mock legislative session. Academy graduates are currently working in legislative and executive offices in Washington DC and Jefferson City, attending law school and graduate school around the country, and leading campus political groups.
Truman will select up to four students to participate in this program and will cover the cost of participation. To be eligible, students must be currently-enrolled, degree-seeking students, have demonstrated leadership skill, and have expressed interest in women’s public policy leadership. Students must also be returning to Truman for the Fall 2008 semester. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply. Applications are available by clicking on the link below, and are due by Friday, March 21, 2008.
