Who can use the CAPP degree audit?
Only undergraduate
degree-seeking students who first entered Truman in Fall
2004 or a later semester can use CAPP. Access for
graduate degree-seeking students who first entered Truman in
Fall 2004 or later will be added later this semester.
Why is the system available only to
students who entered Truman in Fall 2004?
Students who
matriculated prior to this date, particularly students who
attended prior to Summer 2003, do not have attributes and
other critical information attached to their courses that
CAPP needs to process a degree audit. Therefore, any
audit processed by students who earned credit in any
semester prior to Fall 2004 would not contain accurate
information about the requirements that you have already
completed.
What are the "general requirements" and
the "additional information" screens for?
These are screens
that come with the system, and which show the courses that
were used toward your audit and courses that were excluded
from your audit. Honestly, we don’t like them, and we
strongly recommend that you use the “detail
requirements” option to view your audit. It will
provide you with the best and most comprehensive analysis of
your progress toward degree completion.
Some courses on my degree audit are
hyperlinked to the online catalog, and some are not.
How can I see the descriptions for all the courses in my
program?
The system only
hyperlinks courses that you have not yet taken and
that are specifically required (i.e., not part of a list of
several courses) for your program to the online catalog.
To look for other course descriptions, go directly to the
online catalog and follow the prompts there.
Are there requirements that CAPP
doesn't check?
Yes. CAPP does
not check your assessment requirements (i.e., portfolio,
junior and senior tests, etc), and is not programmed to
review dual degrees or repeat rules. There are also
occasionally requirements of a particular major (i.e.,
upper-level competency testing in Music) that are not
checked in CAPP. You should use CAPP in conjunction
with your General Catalog and any information that your
major discipline provides to you to ensure that you remain
on track for graduation.
How does CAPP decide where to place
courses that I've completed?
CAPP processes your
courses chronologically, based on a “best fit” scenario.
It will look through each of your courses in the order
you’ve completed them, and then it assigns each course to
the first requirement in your degree program that the course
will fulfill.
The degree audit placed one of my
courses in two places. Is that okay?
In most cases, yes.
CAPP is programmed to recognize that some courses can
“double fulfill” requirements, such as writing enhanced
courses, intercultural courses, and some
required support courses. Be sure to look through
requirements for your major in the General Catalog to make
sure that this duplicate placement is appropriate. If
you have any questions, contact your academic advisor or the
Registrar’s Office.
What should I do if CAPP placed a
course in one section, when I wanted to use it in another?
Stop by the
Registrar's Office and we will "target" the course to the
correct area.
How will courses that I've substituted
or waived appear on CAPP?
This information
will be programmed after your substitution or waiver is
approved by your advisor, academic dean, and the Vice
President for Academic Affairs, and after you have
completed the substituted course. The course that you
substituted will automatically be used to fulfill the
requirement specified, and you will see that course listed
next to the requirement. A waiver will be noted as
“waiver approved” alongside the requirement.
I completed Elementary Foreign Language
I, but it didn't appear in the Elementary Language section
of the LSP Interconnecting Perspectives. Why not?
The system is
programmed to look for Elementary I only when it is
used in conjunction with Elementary II. As a result,
until you either enroll in Elementary II (if you are taking
the course from Truman), or until you earn credit for
Elementary II (if you are transferring credit or taking a
CLEP exam), Elementary I will appear in a different location
on your worksheet. Be advised, however, that
Elementary I will be placed in its appropriate position as
soon as Elementary II appears on your record.
I tested out of Speech. Does the
system know that I don't have to complete COMM 170?
Yes, as long as
we’ve received your test out or place out information from
the Speech Placement Coordinator. If you placed out of
COMM 170, your place out exam and your additional course
will be used to fulfill the Speech requirement. If you
tested out of COMM 170, the system will note that you have
an exam record that waives this requirement (see the E in
the right column), and will mark this requirement as
fulfilled.
I repeated a course, and I don't
understand how it appears in the degree audit. Can you
explain this to me?
If the repeated
course has been removed from your records (i.e., it is
marked with either an “A”veraged or an “E”xcluded in the
repeat column on your transcript), the system will ignore
the course completely. If it has not been removed from
your records, you should contact the Registrar’s Office and
have your records updated.
If you earned an F
in a course, the course will automatically be placed in your
electives. There does not need to be any indication of
the averaged grade or an excluded grade, since grade
of F does not carry any hour value.
I earned an AA degree before I came to
Truman. How does this appear on my degree audit?
Your degree audit
will show any remaining requirements in your Essential
Skills and Modes of Inquiry areas as fulfilled by your
Associate of Arts degree. If your audit has not been
updated with your AA degree, please inform the Registrar.
I'm a double major. Why can't I
check each of my majors at the same time?
You cannot audit both programs at the same time because of
the way that different majors allow cousres to
double-fulfill requirements. Your program information
will list both of your majors, and you will need to run an
audit for each of them. Please also refer to the
University catalog for additional information about double
majors or additional baccalaureate degrees.
I’m a Pre-Business Administration (or
Pre-Accounting) major. How can I be sure that I’m
keeping up with all of my degree requirements?
The Pre-Business
Administration and the Pre-Accounting programs will only
assess your progress toward admission to the Business or
Accounting majors. To complete an audit as a Business
Administration or Accounting major before you’ve been
accepted to these majors, use the “what-if analysis” option
at the bottom of the screen. If you’re auditing a Business
Administration major using the “what-if analysis” option, be
sure to select a concentration.
CAPP put several courses in the
required support for my Social Science major (Economics,
History, Justice Systems, Political Science, Psychology,
Sociology/Anthropology), even courses that I don't intend to
use to fulfill this requirement. Why did this happen?
The system is trying
to find 15 hours in one discipline, and it will “store”
courses in this area until it does. This will not
compromise the accuracy of your audit, as courses that need
to be counted toward degree requirements or minor
requirements will still be audited. As soon as you
complete 15 hours, the rest of the courses will be released
from this area.
When will Learning Plans for
Agricultural Science BS, Biology BA, Physics BA, and Art BFA
Vis Comm students be entered on the system?
After your Learning
Plan is approved, a copy will be forwarded to the
Registrar’s Office. At that time, we will program your
courses into your personal learning plan, and they will
appear when you process a degree audit after that time.
How do I check to see if I'm eligible
for a minor?
Use the “what-if
analysis” link at the bottom of the degree audit pages.
After choosing a major program, continue through the
concentration select to the minor selection area.
Enter the minor you’re interested in earning, and run an
audit. You can do the same thing if you’re checking
for another major, or thinking about changing your degree
program.
My major requires me to complete a
concentration or pattern, but it didn't appear on the audit.
What's wrong?
Either you haven’t
declared your concentration yet, or you ran a “what-if
analysis” without adding a concentration. Business
Administration, Communication, Exercise Science, Health
Science, and Music General Concentrations majors all require
a concentration.
How can
I find my major gpa?
For most majors, all of
your required major courses are listed in one area.
The grade point average at the end of this area is your
major gpa.
Health and Exercise Science
major gpas are calculated using a specific combination
of courses. These majors have an additional
section at the end of the student's audit that will
calculate the major gpa.
Other majors, specifically
Business Administration, Communication, English BA, and
Music General Concentrations, have their major split
into anywhere from two to four sections. These
majors will still need to calculate a major grade point
average by hand. Additional information on how to
calculate your grade point average is available by
clicking
here.
What are the program and overall grade
point averages that are listed on the first page of my
audit?
The overall
grade point average is your cumulative grade point
average. The program grade point average is the
grade point average for all courses that CAPP used to
complete your degree program. Please note that
program grade point average is not your major
grade point average.
What if I think my audit is wrong?
Please contact
either your advisor or the Registrar’s Office immediately!
While we have done everything we could to make sure that
your audit runs correctly, it would have been impossible for
us to predict every possible situation or problem. If
this occurs, you should print a copy of your audit and bring
it with you to our office.
Who should I contact if I still have questions?
Again, you
should first contact your academic advisor. If you
still have questions after that meeting, contact the
Registrar’s Office, McClain Hall 104. If you have
questions about the information you received on your
degree audit, you should print a copy of your audit and
bring it with you to our office.
